What is ERAP application portal?
Those individuals and households who are struggling to pay their rent due to being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic will get assistance from the NYS Emergency Rental Assistance Program available since June 1, 2021.
The qualified New York citizens can get up to 12 months of rent payment assistance in addition to receiving 3 months of future rent and other assistance. Applicants can also get assistance for 12 months for electric or gas utility arrear payments that have accrued on or after March 13, 2020.
The assistance amount will be directly deposited to the landlord’s accounts on behalf of the tenants. During the first month of the program, certain households would be prioritized based on their eligibility criteria fulfillment. Afterward, the applications would be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

To get to the online application form click the link here and then scroll down the newly opened tab to click the “Register Now” or “Apply Here Now” button. After clicking the “Apply Here Now” button you will be redirected to a new page where you get two options and they are either Start New Application or Resume Existing Application.
How to check ERAP application status?
For ERAP check application status, you can go to the link provided here and then go back to the application site and enter the Application ID number into the “Check Status” button.
Here are the eligibility requirements:
- Those households whose gross income is at or below 80% of the area median income.
- Individuals or households who became unemployed or experienced a significant reduction in income or suffered extreme losses and financial hardships due to the outbreak of the pandemic.
- The applicant has accumulated rental arrears on or after march 13, 2020.
- The household is facing immediate risk of eviction due to non-payment of rent on or after March 13, 2020.
How does the ERAP program work?
All payments of tenants who are earning 40% to 50% less than the area median income will be considered eligible for the program and their overdue rents will be paid to the landlord/property owner on their behalf. Both landlords and tenants have to apply for the program. Qualified utility arrears will also be considered and covered by ERAP.
