Letter to father asking Permission to join the historical tour
26, Usman Hostel,
25th Nov. 20…
My dear Father,
You will be glad to know that our College “Historical Society” has arranged a trip to Agra to see the Taj, one of the wonders of the world, in the second week of December. Our Principal and the Professor of History Will accompany us. The tour will last for ten days. We shall get Students Travel Concession and so the expenses per head will not exceed Rs. 850/. The College will also contribute to our travel expenses. Of course, the board and lodging expenses will be all our own.
Dear father, it is a rare opportunity and I am confident of your gladly allowing me to avail myself of it. Most of my friends have already given their names and deposited the money. I am really very eager to see the grand artistic memorial that Emperor Shah Jahan got built to immortalize the sweet memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is said that it is not a building but magic or a dream in marble. Lovers of art come from far and near to see this matchless monument.
On our way back we will stay in Delhi for a couple of days. We will visit Qutab Minar, Red Fort, Raj Ghat, the All-India Radio, and TV Stations, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House, Okhla Industrial Estate, and other historical places worth seeing.
Father, as you know very well, tours, travels, picnics, etc. form an integral part of education. They break the monotony of our routine life and add to our knowledge and widen our vision. They enable us to see and study the historical places which reflect our art, architecture, and culture. It is needless to say that such opportunities are rare. They do not come every day. If you give me permission, my long-felt desire will be fulfilled.
You should not have any worries about my account. Our worthy Professor will take care of us. As soon as we reach Agra, I will write to you about my welfare.
In case you kindly agree to my accompanying the tour, please send me a letter by return of post along with a draft on Jammu and Kashmir Bank for Rs. 850/
More when I come back from the long-cherished tour. With love to dear mother and Fatima.
Your affectionate son,
