My dear Karim,

I could not write a letter to you earlier because I had gone to see the Taj at Agra. The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. It is a love story carved in marble.

The Taj Mahal is situated on the right bank of the Jamuna near Agra. Moreover, It was built at a heavy cost. It is said that twenty thousand workmen took twenty years to complete it. The gateway is built of sandstone. Verses from the Quaran are also inscribed on it. As we enter the gate, we come across a large attractive garden. The sight of a water channel lined with cypress trees, a spacious grassy park, fountains of water, and beds of fragrant flowers, is very charming, indeed.

The Taj which is made of white marble stands on a large platform. There are four tall marble minarets, one at each corner of the platform. In the center, there is the main tomb also. It is about 275 feet high. In the interior of the tomb are the graves of Shah Jahan and the queen Mumtaj Mahal. Then there are screens of marble. The inner sides of the walls were once studded with precious stones of various colors. But later on, they were taken away by the British rulers.

Moreover, the Taj looks beautiful at all hours. But it looks most beautiful in the moonlight. It looks like a dream in marble. Its beauty beggars description. It is a master-piece of Mughal Art. In short, the Taj is a thing of beauty and, therefore, a joy for ever.

I wish you had an opportunity to see this wonder of the world. Pay my respects to your parents and love to young ones.

Yours sincerely,
Roshan.
