Informal Letter to father explaining prize distribution function
5th June, 200…
My dear Father,
The Annual Prize Distribution Function is an important event of one’s college. It lends dignity, charm and a new life to our institution. Prize winners and their parents eagerly wait for it.
The Prize Distribution function of our college was celebrated on 14th April 1998. Shri Mohd. Shati, the ex-Hon’ble Education Minister, very kindly presided over the function and gave away the prizes. The college building was cleaned and white-washed and the doors and windows were tastefully painted. Moreover, the compound where the function was held was beautifully decorated with bunting, balloons, flags, and portraits of national leaders. It presented an attractive look. About one thousand distinguished guests were invited to grace the occasion.
The chief guest arrived at exact 4-30 PM. The Principal and members of the staff received him warmly. The members of the student committee presented to him a guard of honor and garlanded him also. The police band was in attendance. After that, the Principal conducted the Honourable Minister to the dais raised for the purpose. The audience cheered him and stood up as a mark of respect.
The function began with a song specially composed for the occasion. It was highly appreciated by everyone present. The Principal then welcomed the chief guest and read out the college annual report. He made mention of the all-round progress made by the college in the field of studies, games, and sports, cultural and also of other activities.

The chief guest was then requested to give away the prizes. There was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm among the prize winners who were neatly dressed in the college uniform.
Father, you will be glad to learn that I won a gold medal for standing first in my class in the last annual examination. Had you been present, you would have felt proud of me.
The prizes consisted of big challenge cups, shields, small cups for individual prizes, medals, books and also of other useful articles of daily use.
After this, the Chairman (Honourable Education Minister) made a short speech. He congratulated the prize winners and asked the other students to emulate their example both in the classroom and in the held. Moreover, he advised them to learn discipline, develop a taste for studies and work for national integration. In fact, his speech was listened to with rapt attention.
Next came a variety entertainment program consisting of music, dance, drama, humorous skits and vigorous Bhangra with a rhythmic beat of the drum also. The audience enjoyed it much.
In the end, the Secretary of Students Union thanked the Honourable chief guest and others, for finding time to participate in the function and make it a grand success.
The function came to a close with the singing of Jan-Gan-Man. But the students felt happy only When the Principal announced that the college would remain closed “6’“ day in honor of Honourable Education Minister’s visit. On the whole, the function was a complete success.
With best regards and respect of Mummy.
